Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Driver Validation
an open source 802.11a/bg driver for the ipw2200 and ipw2915 - main | validation | firmware | downloads | GIT | news | faq
SourceForge.net Logo
For those who are interested in helping with executing manual tests against the ipw2100 and ipw2200/2195 drivers, the tests are now avaiable on the online TestRunner tool at http://bughost.org/bugzilla/tr_currenttestruns.cgi and the test case results are now writable by the community. i.e. any one with a bugzilla account can now set a test case to pass/fail for the latest driver versions.

The objective of using this tool is to help quantify the level of coverage done on each ipw2100 and ipw2200/2195 release, and allow the community to contribute to the testing. More testing hands will help the project get more "stable" releases out more often.

To help with testing the latest version of the ipw2100 or ipw2200/2195 driver, go to http://bughost.org and click on the "Run Tests" link at the botton.

The goal of the validation effort for the Intel PRO/Wireless 2100/2200 drivers for Linux is to ensure that we can state how much testing has been performed and what the quality risks are based on the testing. Community testing and input will be greatly leveraged in order to determine this information.

Our goals are:

  • Test new functionality as soon as it is available in the driver.
  • Enhance test plan to give us an understanding of what is needed to fully test the driver, and determine how much testing has been performed on each version of the driver.
  • Automate as many test plans as possible.
  • Run a basic automated test suite against each build of the driver to ensure basic functionality is present.

The outline of a test plan against the major functional areas in the driver is available here (testplan.txt).

The tests cover these functional areas:
  1. Infrastructure Mode
  2. Infrastructure Mode
  3. Ad-hoc Mode
  4. SSID scan
  5. Power Management
  6. AP to AP roaming
  7. WLAN Extension Support, including iwconfig, iwpriv, iwspy
  8. WEP
  9. 802.1X Basic Tests Thanks Terry Simons. (Also, a really useful document by Crystal Xiong and Yan Nan is this XSupplicant and freeRadius HOWTO)
  10. Install
  11. Rate scaling
  12. Fragmentation Tests
  13. Data transfer
  14. Monitor mode
  15. WPA/WPA2 (also check out this WPA/WPA2 HOWTO document - by Salwan Searty - that helps you setup wpa_supplicant configurations: WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, WPA-EAP PEAP, WPA-EAP TLS, WPA-EAP TTLS/CHAP, WPA-EAP TTLS/MSCHAP, WPA-EAP TTLS/PAP.)

We plan to run automated basic acceptance tests (ABAT) against each release of the driver to ensure that basic functionality is present.

Our goal is to gather results from running the ABAT against as many Linux OSDs and hardware types as possible. If you'd like to help, feel free to download the script from:
http://www.bughost.org/ipw/validation/abat/ABAT.txt
and mail your results as well as hardware vendor and model, version of driver tested against, and OS/version used to Salwan Searty.

Results of running ABAT against each build of the IPW2200 driver are shown here page.

Dec 02 2004 New Regression Tests added
Bugs 271 through 305 have been scrubbed for new regression tests. The regression tests link above contains the new test cases.

Oct 19 2004 Test pass stats for 0.12
Yan Nan has run regression tests and roaming tests on on ipw2200 v0.12.
Test results can be found here

Oct 16 2004 Test pass stats for 0.11
Yan Nan has run full pass on ipw2200 v0.11(feature-complete release of ipw2200), except those passed test cases on v0.8.
Test results can be found here

Oct 02 2004 Test pass stats for 0.8
The 0.8 test pass used the new tests from the ipw2200 validation website. Results are in the format defined by those tests.
802.1x, WEP, WLAN Extensions, Data Transfer, Power Management and regression tests were run against build 0.8. Results can be found here. General Comments: shared key, S-state, setting mode, setting rate, fragmentation, ad-hoc, and monitor mode not yet supported.

Sep 26 2004 New Tests Results
A Test Results page for our test execution of the above test cases is now available.

Sep 19 2004 New Regression Tests Posted
Click here to get to the regression tests. These the regression tests have been pulled out of bugzilla (bug#1 to bug#197) and postings to the mailing list (from June 1 to Sep. 16).

Sep 08 2004 New Automated Tests Posted
Some of our manual tests are now automated. Download the Automated Tests Tarball.

Aug 31 2004 New 802.1x HOWTO
Available now is a really useful XSupplicant and freeRadius HOWTO document by Crystal Xiong and Yan Nan, describing howto use 802.1x with the IPW hardware.

Jul 01 2004 ABAT started
ABAT results have been posted against the latest build at http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/downloads.php (thanks to Werner Macho). Currently, only driver load/unload are expected to pass.

If you have any questions, concerns, etc. please email Mi Jun.
